Workshop 1: Independent Living & Household Budgeting

A practical workshop teaching students how to manage the real costs of living away from home.

Activities:

  • Creating a full household budget (rent, bills, food, transport, insurance, leisure)
  • Comparing living options: student accommodation vs renting
  • Cost‑of‑living scenario challenges
  • Identifying fixed vs variable expenses
  • How to avoid budgeting pitfalls

Workshop 2: Taxes, Payslips & Earnings Explained

Students learn exactly how income tax, National Insurance and other deductions affect take‑home pay.

Activities:

  • Reading real payslips (gross vs net income)
  • Calculating tax and NI contributions
  • Understanding emergency tax codes
  • Exploring minimum wage, living wage, apprenticeships & employment rights
  • Comparing full‑time, part‑time & self‑employed earnings

Workshop 3: Student Loans & Post‑18 Finance

A clear, unbiased breakdown of the true costs of higher education.

Activities:

  • Understanding tuition loans vs maintenance loans
  • How repayment works over time (real examples)
  • Budgeting for student life (rent, utilities, food, travel, books)
  • Apprenticeship vs university financial comparison

Workshop 4: Credit, Debt & Borrowing — Making Responsible Choices

  • Calculating total cost of ownership (fuel, MOT, servicing, tax)

Workshop 6: Long‑Term Financial Planning — Interest, Savings & Pensions

Workshop 7: Consumer Contracts, Fraud & Digital Financial Safety
